A Diabolical Bark

The Puppy

 This diabolical mastermind is tired.

But someone else is completely wired!

Barking, barking till it's dawn.

All I can do, then, is yawn.

So tired and needing sleep.

Please, nothing make a peep.

Barking, barking!  Will it end?

Barking, barking.  Here's a friend!

"Well, someone's a little grumpy grump today," Mommy giggles after looking my way.  "What's the matter, Chase?  Having trouble sleeping at might?"

Having trouble sleeping?

Having trouble sleeping!?!?!?!?

You must be joking!

This diabolical mastermind has done anything, BUT sleep.  All I want is a nice, long nap.  One at night, where I can snooze for hours and hours.

However, a certain fiend has declared war on me.

YES!

The Puppy is back and that canine is destroying my sleep.

How many nights has it been?  I don't know, I'm so tired that I've lost count.

The Puppy's owners are on vacation, that much I do know.  They hired someone to puppy sit, but that someone seems to think that The Puppy should sleep outdoors at night.

Then this hired someone leaves to sleep peacefully at their own house while the rest of us have to listen to The Puppy barking all night long.

Mommy has her ear plugs and Daddy's too zonked out to notice, that leaves me...

Wide awake and jumping with every bark.

"What if I take you for a stroll around the block?  Would my little baby like that?"

Does that stroll mean that I can take a nap?

Nope!

Bouncy!  BUMP!  Bouncy!  Wobble.

If only I was still a newborn, then I might find this jostling more comforting.

THERE!

We come upon The Puppy's lair.  I squint my eyes, I'm ready to glare.

But...

But...

There The Puppy slouches, looking sad and, almost, alone.

I've never seen The Puppy like this before.

"We're back home," Mommy declares and starts to head inside.

But, I have other plans.  I pull something into the stroller, then I give Mommy an urging point.  I plaster on the perfect begging face, and even offer a smile.

"What?  Does my little Chase want to go around the block again?"

Yes, isn't it obvious?

Mommy takes me for another spin.  I plot and scheme, how will I get her to walk up to The Puppy.  How...

"Hello!"  An older lady calls from The Puppy's home.

"Howdie, do!"  Mommy cries back and I almost bury my head.  "How is the house sitting going?"

Mommy pulls the stroller right next to the fenced backyard.

"Good, though I'm ready for Bob and Bev to return this weekend."

"Oh, I understand...."

The two talk and talk and never once notice me.  What am I doing?  Let me see.

I shuffle the stroller just a little bit closer.  The Puppy spots me and watches without making a noise.

With ears perked, the Puppy watches.

That's when I pull out an old squeaky dog grouches.  One with a scowl and one with a stare.  Both ready for a new playmate and I'm ready to share.

The Puppy is hesitant and I can understand.

It isn't always that this diabolical mastermind has been kind, especially to this canine.

Her tail starts to wiggle and she gives one a bite.

SQUEAK!

The Puppy bounces with joy and heads into the yard.  All the while those old dog grouches and squeaking and squeaking along.

Someone has a friend.

Time for this mastermind to get some sleep at last.

SQUEAK!

DRAT!
