A Diabolical Cookie Gobble

Mommy's brought me to trunk or treat
As I'm dressed like a little beet.
My baby Gobbles has tagged along
And is showing off his brand new song.
Everyone in costumes for Halloween
Including that Puppy dressed like a bean.
A giant cookie monster gives a fright
Then it thinks Gobbles is a tasty delight!
Please explain, oh mother dear, please explain just one more time why you've dressed this diabolical mastermind...
As a BEET!
Of all the costumes out and about, why, oh why, did Mommy pick a root?
It even has a tail, the long end of the beet's root sticking out behind me.
I look like a rounded dragon!
One complete with a green leafy top. Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh, how tonight is going to be a flop.
"Gobble, gobble!"
Onto my lap Gobbles jumps and I actually manage a smile. He snuggles down right beside me, with a tiny guitar strapped around his feathery shoulders.
"GOBBLE!"
"Look at how adorable you two look," Mommy beams and snaps a few pictures of Gobbles and me.
Gobbles looks over at me and me at Gobbles. It becomes clear that we are both thinking the same thing. On the count of three... One, two...
THREE!
PPHHHHFFFRRRRTTTHHHHPPPPTTT!
Mommy's smile drops and it get me to start giggling. "Very funny," she murmurs. "Don't forget, if I spend all night changing your diaper, little one, then there will be no time for trunk or treating.
Candy is very delicious. Perhaps I can be nice for the rest of the night.
Mommy hurries to change me. As she does, I make sure to be so, so good and not kick her this once. Then, into the car and off we go! Through town and to the school. The FFA is hosting this one.
And you can definitely tell!
A tractor here, a tractor there. Tractors, tractors everywhere! Big ones and small, old ones and new. There's an odd one.
Oh, wait....
It's paper mache.
"That's right, just reach your hand into the tractor's mouth and pull your candy out," the woman dressed in clown-like overalls explains. "What a sweet, little baby. You look so cute in your beet costume."
"Gobble, gobble! GOBBLE!" Gobbles squawks. "Gobble, gobble." He goes as if he's singing a song.
It's quite catchy, I do admit. In fact, I start to wiggle and wriggle a bit.
"Gobble, gobble! GOBBLE!
"Woof!"
My dancing freezes and I mechanically twist around. Is that the Puppy I hear!?!?!?
Is that my infamous, nefarious, enemy of all...
My head tilts to the side and I give a little, "huh."
I guess I can't feel too bad about being dressed as a beet. Not when the Puppy is dressed as a freshly picked green bean.
"Grr."
Don't worry, Puppy. I feel exactly the same way.
Instead of giving another growl, the Puppy flips out her tongue and pants an understanding nod.
True, we may be enemies. But, when it comes to silly costumes at trunk or treat, we share a mutual understanding with our crazy mommies.
"GOBBLE!"
What was that!? A cry of fright from my baby turkey.
I turn my head around to find a crazy, blue haired monster's face. It's sticking out of one of the trunks with a mouth that's wide open.
AAHHHHHH!
"GOBBLE!"
Gobbles flaps and falls right into the monster's cookie crumb covered mouth.
"I guess someone's wanting a tasty delight," the guy standing next to the hideous monster laughs. AND Mommy joins in with his laughter, too.
Why are you laughing? This monster is eating my dear, sweet Gobbles.
I grab hold of my old rattle and raise my arm.
WHACK!
Take that, you scary monster!
"Chase, no. Don't destroy the man's cookie monster."
I will, Mommy, if it will save my Gobbles.
"GOBBLE!"
Huh?
Out from the monster's mouth, Gobbles pokes his head out. I peak my head closer and inside. There, Gobbles sits. Right on top of a bowl full of candy.
"Wow, your baby annihilated my poster."
Oopsies!
Do I still get some candy?
